Remembrance Wall

Dear ASFG Families,

As we approach Halloween and Día de los Muertos, our school community is preparing to create a Remembrance Wall in honor of the loved ones we have lost. Organized by the ASFG Counseling Department, the wall will provide a shared space to reflect, honor memories, and come together as a supportive community.

Participation is optional. If you and your family would like to take part, we invite you to write the name of a deceased loved one, including a beloved family pet, on a paper monarch butterfly. You may also include a short memory or message in the language of your choice, or a drawing. The butterflies will be displayed on the wall beneath the new Sports & P.E. Department.

Early childhood and elementary families are invited to talk about remembrance at home and decorate a monarch butterfly together. EC families can pick up paper butterflies from the EC office. Elementary Spanish teachers will send the paper butterflies home with students. Please return completed butterflies to your section office by October 26.

Note: First and second grade students will participate in a Día de Muertos project with an author and create flowers instead of butterflies, which will also be included on the Remembrance Wall.

Middle and high school students will participate in a lesson about memory, loss, and community support during Advisory or Mentoring and will have the opportunity to create their own butterfly during that class.

Loss is a universal experience, yet remembering together can bring comfort and connection. Through this project, we hope to honor those we have lost and remind our students and families that we are a community here to support one another.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s counselor or Gloria Jimenez, Head of School Counseling, at gloria.jimenez@asfg.edu.mx.

Warmly,

ASFG Counseling Department
